Can anyone send a picture of what compnents are included in the lock assembly on the upper end of the steering column, 1940 Mercury. The ignition switch is installed and working, I do not have a lock cylinder. Is anything else involved besides the clock cylinder and the electrical switch?A copy of a shop manual or parts manual page would be very helpful chascwell

The 1940 Mercury steering column is not depicted in any of the parts catalogs. The cylinder operates a spring loaded plunger that fits into the bottom of the steering wheel to lock the wheel. The ignition switch is also locked by the cylinder turning. I can supply the P/Ns, but not photos as my car is all together. Tom
