Topic: 1939 MERC INSIDE DOOR LEVER & WINDOW CRANK

The rear inside door lever and window cranks in my 39 are in great shape, the fronts however have shed much of the brown coating. Does anyone repop these? The Ford counterparts are smaller, has anyone managed to get a very similar paint?

Thanks!

Scott

No one re-pops the handles. If all that is wrong with yours is the plastic coating, you will have to do own coating.

The 1940 handles are similar, except the coating is blue. I cleaned the handles and sanded them with 800 wet or dry paper to get an even sheen on them. Then I mixed a dark blue paint with a blending agent to give the paint a transparent property and enough body to stick to the handle. Then I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a clear epoxy coating and dipped the handles in it. It took a couple of dippings to achieve the effect that looked close to the original. I used Envirotek epoxy, but it has hardened over the years and is scratching now. Try to find one that is closer to a soft plastic, so it will hold up better.
