Is there an easy way to replace the speedometer on my 51 Merc, or do I have to remove the dash insert? Any tricks, shortcuts, etc, would be appreciated

Don, I think Howard Simpson may have your answer. Time for a couple of Past Presidents to have a chat. Alan Alan

Thanks Alan..Alan. I may try that. I have a local Merc guy here in St. Louis, but haven't been able to catch him at home yet. Thought I'd try asking a question for a change instead of answering them!!! Regards. Don

I have done it both ways but the easiest way is to remove the entire dash assembly with the insert in place. The insert itself is 3x harder to remove than the entire dash because of all the hidden anchor points.Once the dash is off, you can also change bulbs, tighten connections, etc. Good luck.

PS I have never seen a grey 51 Merc convertible until now. Is that a stock color or a custom ? Really a nice color combination for the car.

It's actually an original "Kerry Blue Metallic" color. It's quite pleasant to the eyes!!! Thanks also for the suggestion!!
