Horn rod length. I believe the one I have is incorrect. Can anyone give me the length of the horn rod from the underside of the pot metal horn button assembly to the end of the metal rod? The other question I have is the correct part number for the pitman arm. The one that came with the car is a 78A-3590 that only goes on the splined shaft about half way. From all my searching, the correct one may be 11A-3590 but I get conflicting information on the net. Can anyone confirm? Thank you, Bruce 928-458-8050 P.S. If anyone has either of these correct parts to sell I am interested. Thanks.

78-3590 is the factory part for the pitman arm, 11A-3590 is the service replacement, they should be interchangeable. The sector shaft P/N 78-3576 fits 1937-1948 cars. Could someone put in a different P/N sector shaft? The parts catalogs do not give the length of the horn rod. It is part of an assembly, so in order to get the length you would have to find someone with a spare horn button assembly or inquire at the Henry Ford for a copy of the engineering drawing for 99A-3616. https://www.thehenryford.org/collections-and-research/ The Ford and Mercury horn buttons are completely different, so if you have a Mercury horn button the odds are in favor of the rod being the correct length. You might explain the problem that you are having with the horn rod. Someone may have a solution for you. You could get a close approximation by using a stiff, straight wire. Bend the top end 90 degrees to keep it from falling through, insert it in the column and then mark the bottom end where it comes out of the column. Tom
