Topic: shock replacement

I'm looking to replace my original shocks with modern day shocks on my 47 mercury sedan coupe. Has any one done this conversion and does anybody make a kit for front and rear? Bob

You should have no problem doing this “modernization”, as Ford actually began doing it in mid-‘47.

I believe Ford only did the trucks in the late 40's and not the cars. Is this true?

If you doubt the veracity of my answers, perhaps your purposes would be better served by doing your own research.

Yes, I did this on my 48 this past year. I can't remember where I got the kit, but I googled it on the internet. The front is OK, But I needed to drill holes for the top of the shocks to mount in the cross frame. You will also need to pull the rear hubs to mount the bottom shock bracket. The nice thing is that the kit comes with very clear instructions including the shocks.

Oldfords, Thanks for your reply. Did your kit bolt up to the original shock mounting holes in the front ?

Alan , I sincerely apologize for questioning your veracity. Being an old man myself, I sometimes fail to consider others ego. You have a Blessed day. Bob

Check with C and G Parts who advertise in the V-8 Times. They carry kits for the conversion and they do bolt up using original holes.
