Topic: 48 merc hood

The hood was off the car when I got it and now I know why. The hinges and support arms are missing and the bolts holding them are broke off. I think I have the bolts drilled out and threaded and can purchase hinges and supports. Here now is the real problem, The bracket on the right side inside of the hood where the support arm bolts is also broke off and the on on the left is bent. I can't seem to find anything about them or even a part number if there is one. I am up here in the Black Hills of SD and parts are not available, and I don't even know where there is one I could look at. Any help would be great

thanks

If I read your post correctly, the parts that you are looking for are part of the hood assembly and do not have a separate part number. If the rest of your hood is in good condition, you might be better off fabricating the brackets.

French Lake Auto Pars in Annandale, Minnesota is advertising a 1948 hood for sale on E-Bay.

I have attached a photo from a 42 Mercury hood showing the bracket that I think you need.

That hinge tab is not too strong. I had one break off of my 47 Mercury and it was a royal pain welding it back together and reattaching!

You could probably make a better one from some heavier gauge steel.
