I have seen that it is possible to remove a Mercomatic trans. without pulling the engine by removing the output shaft/tail housing assembly to allow enough room to drop the trans out. Has anyone done this? Info/advice/links appreciated.

According to the shop manual, you do not need to remove the tail housing assembly to remove the MercOMatic. "1951 THROUGH 1954 MERCURY AND 1955 LINCOLN. Remove the detachable frame cross member from the frame X member." If you do not have the Lincoln and Mercury Automatic transmission manual, Rock Auto sells a CD version. Here is a copy of the MercOMatic removal procedure. Tom This message was edited by TomO on 7-4-22 @ 8:51 AM
