I am replacing my fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb on my 1951 Mercury. I bought a steel fuel line but it needs to be flared and slightly bent. Is it OK to use copper? It is so much easier to work with. THANKS!

It is not a good idea t o use copper for a fuel line. Copper work hardens and then it can fracture. I believe that the Mercury line used the compression ferrules for sealing like the Ford did. You will not have to flare the line if you use the ferrules. Bending a steel line is not fun, but they do make some bending tools that make the job easier. Tom

Get a short brake line of the correct size (they are made of a metal that "forms" easily) and put your fuel line fittings on it. FWIW Paul in CT
