Picked up a engine , I think it may be Mercury, 3&3/16 bore, center holes top triangles, center large round hole and bottom trapezoid. Only markings I see on the heads is 9T but not in normal place more above #7 or 32cylinders. Really too dirty to get any more numbers off block. Has 39,40 distributor.. thanks

With the 3 3/16" bore it is probably a Mercury block.
Does it have freeze plugs in the bottom rail? You should be able to see the bumps in the side casting.
Does it have a raised machined deck for the intake manifold?
Does it have steel sleeves in the cylinders?
Does it have 99T stamped on the front passenger side of the intake mounting surface?

If the heads are 99T-6049 and 99T-6050, it is a truck engine.
If the heads are 81T-6049 and 81T-6050, it is a Mercury engine.

The blocks are the same for the 95 HP truck and Mercury engines.

Tom O, no freeze plugs in pan rail & no raised deck., it does not have sleeves. The block has to be cleaned before and stampings can’t be visible.
The heads had 9T but not in center more to one end above plug holes.
The block is not relieved like truck blocks. Thanks for your response

The no freeze plugs in the pan rail make it a 1941 or later block.
