  Bought a 1939 Mercury sedan and the speedometer reads 160 mph. Cant find any information about it. All I find read 100 mph. Any ideas appreciated.

  100 MPH translates into 160 KPH
Just stabbing around in the dark but being a Canadian with metric system rammed down our throats is it possible this is a metric speedo? For export to European locations? Just a guess but I plugged 100 mph into my metric/imperial converter and 160 KMP popped up.

  Your speedometer is most likely reading kilometers per hour. To determine this drive your car at what feels like 30 mph and read the speedometer. It should read around 48 kmh. If you have a gps, you can use that to check the speedometer.

100mph equates to 160kmh.

  If you take it on the highway matching the speed with other cars and it shows 109 that is equiv of 62 MPH
90KMH=55MPH
80KPH=48MPH

  Makes sense just didnt figure many 39s were exported since it was first year. Kinda unusual for it to be in South Carolina but anything is possible. Thanks for the feedback
