Have a 1940 Ford sedan that was 30 yrs ago stripped to bare metal and repainted with lacquer. Today it is showing slight spider cracking in two places. Will applying lacquer thinner to those areas flow the paint together? Carl

I doubt it.

It will probably make make a big mess. It will soften the lacquer and may make its bond to the metal fail. The best way to correct this is to sand the panel to bare metal, prime with an epoxy primer and repaint. If there is any filler under the paint, it should be replaced with a modern filler. The modern paints are not always compatible with the older paints and fillers. They can cause the older paints and fillers to fail. Tom

You might also consider admiring it, because what you have there is PATINA. Alan
