  Hey Guys,

where can a man get some black lacquer paint?
I need some for touchup, or can you use just a
regular high gloss black paint?
Thanks for help/suggestions,

Don Ford

If you are trying to touch up exterior parts of the car, acrylic enamel will work fine. Rattle can paint works OK for chassis touch up.

Greetings: TCP Global in San Diego has the Auto Color Library and does manufacture lacquer. They also have color charts going back to the late 1800's and have color standards and color matching for all antique cars. They can ship lacquer to all states except CA. They manufacture their own brands of paint, primer and various other materials.
You wont find a better, more knowledgeable supplier. http://www.tcpglobal.com/ My advice is always to try and stick with the material already on the car, lacquer is hard to come by. TCP does carry lacquer.

  Thanks Alan,
I'll give them a try, I had actually heard of them before, but never regarding lacquer.

Don, I thought you said that your paint is original. If so it would be a synthetic enamel and the acrylic enamel would match better than lacquer.

To test for lacquer, put some lacquer thinner on a rag and wipe across an inconspicuous spot. If the rag turns the color of the car, it is lacquer.

Go not try to spot in with a spray gun, if the paint is enamel or the lacquer is more than 10 years old. You won't be happy with the results.
