	Hi I have a 1948 mercury with a 59ab engine in it .Can the heads which are marked 6049 and 6050 go on any side of the engine ? Thanks Roger This message was edited by angus on 10-20-17 @ 9:59 PM

	Roger, I cannot find any reference to 59A-6049 heads. The 6049 head would go on the right side of the engine in the earlier version of the heads and the 6050 would go on the drivers side of the engine. The 59A- 6050 heads will work on either side of a 59A engine. Tom

	Hi thanks for the reply .The other day I was reading the ford mercury 1942-1948 shop manual the one with green cover and on page k-27 it says. Install cylinder heads 6049 on the right hand bank and 6050 on the left bank .Look for the part numbers cast in the heads as each will fit on the other bank but if you put on the wrong side will set up an engine vibration owing to a difference in volume of the combustion chamber .In my parts book it states to use heads 59a 6050b on both sides when replacing earlier types .

	Roger, The 1948 Mercury came with the 59A block and 59A 6050 heads. Both heads had the same P/N and identification marking. The heads can be used on either side on the 59A block. The 21A 6049 and 21A 6050 heads were the last set that had different part numbers. These and earlier heads are the ones that the shop manual is referencing. Tom
