Topic: 1950-51 Mercury exterior mirror

Since I don't have a picture listed in my parts manual, how correct is this mirror for a 1950-51 Mercury sedan?
This one is listed on Shoebox as 8M-18402-B as being correct for the Mercury but my parts manual shows HAK 18402-A as a kit for 1950-51

Mercury cars could have either the factory straight stem very much like the one in the photo or they could have the curved stem accessory mirror that was generally installed at dealerships on request. The type in the photo is in my 1951 Mercury accessory book but the curved type is not. One of my 51 cars came with the straight stem type but it was damaged and came loose after a bird strike so my father removed it. It took me a while to find another.

Hi there. This is gene F. Napoliello, lead author, The 49-51 mercury technical book under construction.

The 1950-1951 mercury used a straight stem design as shown in the picture. The 1949 Mercury used a curved

radius stem. The 49-51 Mercury book will be completed in 2019/2020 so look for it on this web site.

Sincerely,

Gene F. Napoliello
