The '49's have a 3 piece rear backlight, pull type exterior door handles, the words MERCURY spelled out on the hood and parking lamps with a small surrounding bezel. The '50's have a one piece rear backlight, push button door handles and a large chrome molding with the Mercury badge across the hood with a large ribbed surrounding the parking lamps. The dashs are very different between those two years. "51's have a wraparound rear backlight, large vertical tailamps set in an extended rear fender, a red badge on the hood and convex shaped parking lamps set in a wraparound housing. The dash is very similiar to the 1950. Take a picture of the car you are interested in and post it.
