is the original battery a Ford script or was there a Mercury logo on it? a repro offers a Mercury name and head of Mercury on the battery which doesn't seem correct for '39

The Mercury script batteries were for cars built in the 1950's. Your 39 Mercury will take the Ford Script battery used in the 1939 Ford. If you wish to use an Optima in a Ford script case, you will have to modify the battery tray to allow for the increase in height of the Optima. Tom
