  book says use 20/30 weight oil. Can I use modern 5-30 oil?

  That is likely a bit thin. I'd opt for 15-30 or. 15-40. Non-synthetic will leak less, in most cases, as primitive seals tend to seep with full synthetics.

  If it is a flathead Lincoln, use 20W-40. If it is the overhead valve engine, use 10W-30.
