  If this is your first attempt at restoration, it might be wiser to start with something a bit less rare than the '39-'48 Lincolns because parts usually are both scarce and pricey. If you do proceed, seek a specimen that is already drivable, and have fun. Too many first time projects lie abandoned because they can't be used. All of us who have done restorations over the years find that there are plenty of discouragements in the process, and being able to actually drive the vehicle goes a long way toward keeping at it.
