Kube I am working on a 40 sedan with a leather interior and was wondering if there is any way to tell the number produced and was it actually a "taxi" inspired option?

I am unaware of any records kept in regard to leather (optioned) interiors in 1940 Ford closed cars. Like GTO "Judges", there are no doubt many more leather clad '40 Fords than were ever produced in 1940. Ford actually attempted to avoid the sale of the optional leather interior in 1940. At a cost (retail) of $35 it was hardly worth upsetting the production line. I have a letter here (somewhere) that advised dealers to offer this option only as a last resort in order to avoid losing a new car sale...
