I would like to know how to remove the center bearing from a 1940 Ford coupe torque tube. Where could a new bearing be purchased. It appears to be encased in rubber. Does it all have to be removed as a unit. Thanks

Ford used K R Wilson tool SV-186 to remove and install the bearing. The bearing and surrounding rubber can be removed fron the rear of the torque tube. Remove the zirk fitting before removing. The original bearing assemblies are very hard to find, but Skip Heney in Florida sells a replacement. with instructions. skip@fordsrus.com or 941 637-6698

From personal experience I can tell you it's true that the KRW tool designed specifically for this job makes the removal and installation a breeze.

The NOS bearings are tough to find. Personally I prefer the NOS over the 'repops'.
They (NOS) can be had. Expect to pay in the $200 - $250 range.
