Topic: early vs late grille sides

I have a couple of questions about the vented sides to the 40 deluxe grille. I have seen 2 versions, one with a wider spot where the two holes for the little stainless pieces go and another (most) that have a skinny strip there and 1 more louver over all. Also, some of the factory (early) pictures show the small stainless pieces with an angled end unlike the more common pointed ends. Is there any info about when in the production this changed?

It is very true that the early grilles varied from the later types. You are correct in that the early ones sported 'square' end trim while the later utilized the much more common 'spear' end type.
Exactly when this change occurred I do not know at this time. This is one of the things that I'd planned on researching for the new book.
