Topic: Where to get 1940 Ford Dashboard Paint Colors

I would like to know where I can get the correct paint for the Monaida Maroon and the Rose Sand Metallic
as found on the original 1940 Ford DeLuxe dash. Are there paint formulas available? Thank you, JIM (19Fordy)

You might try Bill Hirsch in New Jersey or go to ; www.autocolorlibrary.com.

OK-I am going to list some colors for the dash paint on a 40 deluxe using Dupont paint-L is lacquer but can be changed to Centari
Light --Rose Sand Metallic code 4234L, Lincoln 1961 code Z Desert Frost Metallic
Dark --Monaida Maroon 8762L--1986(?)Mercedes code DB573-Bordeaux Red also some prefer 1977 Cadillac code 79-Madeira Maroon. Give these a look, somewhere to start. These were matched by a Dupont Jobber for me from an original dash in 1992 and look great to me!

C&G 2011 catalog page 358 offers those two dash color paints for the '40.

Guys, I usually stay away from endorsing anyone or any business. However, I feel I have to advise that I have yet to see any paint supplier offer the dash colors that are an acceptable match, at least to me. ALL have required some further tinting. Some are not even close. I will not publicly call out those that sell, well, cr--, but rest assured, just because they are in the business, does NOT mean they know what they are doing or selling for that matter.
Alan has offered (again, my opinion) the best advice thus far. That is, start with a color that is close and tint from there.
Much of the problems as many realize is that modern paints do not lend well to "matching" formulas. A couple of the businesses that have done so and claim this is THE way to go, are misleading many...
With respect,
Mike Kubarth
