What operating Parameter does this gauge actually measure? Should it read in the yellow or in the green?

Thank you
Jim

This a voltmeter (does not measure amps) showing the voltage status of the car's electrical system.

The needle will be in the yellow at around 6 volts. At low RPM (no output from the generator) gauge should be in the yellow, indicating you are working off the battery alone.

The needle will be in the green at around 7 volts. When driving (generator putting out about 7 volts) gauge should be in the green, indicating your battery is being recharged.

The needle will move into the red at around 8 volts (I think). That indicates over-charging, something wrong with the voltage regulator, over time will cook the battery.

The needle will be somewhere in the red area to the left at less than 6 volts. Indicates a discharged battery or worse electrical problem. Better get home quick.
