Topic: Clocking a steering wheel

Does anyone have any insight in how to clock the steering wheel on my 1940 Business Coupe? I know what a dragline & pitman arm are and am familiar with the adjustment screw at the base of the steering box, but ultimately it’s a bit intimidating. Thank you.

Drag lines are used to pull cut trees out of difficult areas. There is no adjustment screw on the bottom of the steering box for the early Fords. Off the bottom of the steering box is the pitman arm. The Drag link is connect between the pitman arm and the steering arm. If your drag link has an adjustment collar it is used to adjust the steering wheel position when driving straight on flat roads. rotating the collar of the drag link will slightly lengthen or decrease the length of the drag link assembly and effect the steering wheel position. The tie rod fits between the two front wheels steering arms, it usually has an adjustment collar which is used to adjust toe in or out. Toe in or out will not correct steering wheel position.
36-40 drag links do not have the collar originally, the tie rod end has to be removed from the steering arm, scr*w*d in or out of the drag link for adjustment. The 41 drag link can be used on the 40 and it does have the link for adjustment.
