I have my genuine accessory '40 Ford water heater sitting proud in its proper location under the dash of my '40 Tudor thanks to Kube's water heater template! Kube is the man!

  Hello from Barney
Speaking of water heaters, could I ask you fine folks if you agree the pics are of a '40 heater? I bought this via our classified ads a couple years ago from, I believe, a club member. It may be for a '40, but it doesn't seem to fit in any of the positions in which I place it. Maybe I just didn't get serious enough. Any thoughts of what year(s) it fits?
Thank you
Barney

  Barney, you have a 41 - 48 heater.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply, Mr. Mike, although it's not what I wanted to hear. I'm guessing I would be wasting time attempting to make it fit. I'm not opposed to performing a bit of retrofitting.
Regards
Barney

I have seen MANY of the later heaters installed in '40 passenger cars. You know I'm a purist at heart, so each makes me cringe a bit.
The '41 - '48 heaters are much more common than a '40 heater and as such much less valuable. No doubt the reason so many have been installed in '40 Fords.

  Hello Mr. Mike,i
Thank you for the lesson on heaters. I'm encouraged about installing it in my '40, but I won't admit to doing it. If you ask me directly, I'd probably lie to you for fear of ruining your day. I'm somewhat of purist. I believe my Ford looks totally factory; however, it does have an electric fuel pump. Ooops - it also has electric motor driven wipers.
Thanks, again, Sir Mike. You're the best.

  What's the difference between a 41 and a 42 - 48 heater?

Mike see attached photo the 41 Ford heater has the defrost valve knob on the left top corner of the heater cabinet like 39 & 40 heaters. The second photo shows heater switch bracket the 41 bracket uses just the switch and the 42 - 48 has room for the switch and the defrost cable. The defrost cable attaches to the defrost valve at the back of the 42 - 48 Ford heater.
