Topic: Door/Quarter Upholstery - Pleat Placement

I confess I haven't looked in the new 1940 book very closely for this one. Seems like every interior photo I see of an unrestored/original '40 shows the placement of the ribbed/pleated sections in different places - some centered on the window crank/escutcheon, some between the window crank and door handle, and others where the ribs/pleats anywhere in between, above or below the handles. Is the difference dependent upon which assembly plant/trim line assembled the panels, or - aside from a panel being reupholstered at some point in time - is there supposed to be a 'standard' or 'correct' placement for the ribs/pleats?

Alan, You have a good eye for detail!
The engineering release depicts the ribs as shown in the attached photograph.
However, there have been a number of unmolested cars that can offer proof that this prescribed location was not always followed.
My guess, and only a guess, is one or more plants, at one or numerous times, didn't quite follow the "rule".
You can't go wrong by following the example in the photo.

Thanks for the compliment, Mike. It always struck me odd, with the attention to detail that '40 Fords enjoyed, that the ribbed section wasn't coordinated to line up between the chrome trim on a Deluxe dash, and likewise positioning of the door and window handles.
