Topic: 1940 Ford Deluxe Instrument Panel Brace

RAK402    -- 07-02-2022 @ 10:20 PM
I have three questions about the brace or strut that runs behind the dashboard from top to bottom in a 1940 Ford:

1) Should there be two, one for each side of the instrument panel (I am reasonably certain their should be two)?

2) Should these be painted black, Monaida Maroon, or some other color?

3) What type hardware is used to install these.

I would not know that these existed without the book "It's Ford for Forty" by Mike Kubarth.

Thank you all in advance.

To add rigidity near the steering column, a ("a", as in "one")metal brace, painted (gloss) black, was installed behind the instrument panel. It was attached to the bottom lip of the instrument panel with a binding head screw (38206-S7), lock washer (34805-S7) and a hex nut (33795-S7). The top of this brace was held in place with a binding head bolt (39093-S7), lock washer (34804-S7) and hex nut (34054-S7). This attachment point also served to fasten the instrument panel to the dash.
