I bought my 1940 vert several years ago and just now I´m starting its restoration. I had the convertible top removed, it´s chromed but on the internet some classic cars for sale I've noticed that some are and others are just beige or brown. I would appreciate any information on this subject. I will rechrome it if that was the way it originally came from the factory . Thank you for your time regards Rigo L Tafur Cali Colombia

Good afternoon, Rigo-- Welcome - from another 40 owner. I do not own a convertible, but I think you can find your answer. Buy a copy of "It's Ford for '40" - the excellent reference book written for 40 owners. You will, without a doubt, need it in your restoration project. Go to the blue section of your screen, click on "Online Store", then click on the link for "Books". The book is $50 + additional postage to you in Colombia. Once you get the book, turn to page 1-60. It explains, in great detail, everything you need to know about your convertible top question. The book devotes 4 pages of explaining the workings of your convertible top. My fellow Club members can also help you with future questions or problems you may run into. Don't be afraid to ask. Good luck on your restoration project. Tom

My 40 convertible mechanisms are painted beige. They appear to have never been repainted. Pat’s 40 Ragtop
