Topic: 1940 Ford Choke and Throttle Rod Joint

Can you remove the rod from the joint...it appears to be a press fit ?
I am going with a dual carb setup and I have to shorten the rods to use them on the rear carb.
Thanks

The rubber joint was originally vulcanized over the two adjoining rod (pieces). It (rubber joint) can be removed but be forewarned, if it's an authentic rod, you'll most likely destroy the rubber. New rubber joints are available.
From the sounds of what you want to accomplish, I'd strongly suggest you simply cut one rod, shorten to the desired length and weld. An easy task with no need to disrupt the joint.

Speaking of the rubber joints on the choke and throttle rods:

One of the dry rotted rubber joints on my original rods finally pulled off the rod. Now keeping it together with a small hose clamp. Need to replace the rubber joints. How do they go together and stay on? I won't be able to vulcanize the rubber. Adhesive? Will they stay on?

I see that complete reproduction rod assemblies are available. Are these good reproductions? Would you advise replacing the complete rods?

The repop assemblies are nice quality. The repop joints work well. I use a little 3M weatherstrip adhesive as both a lubricant to get the joint over the rod end and subsequently, make the two pieces adhere to one another.

  Thank you.

Cut and weld was always an option...but i thought that there might be an easier way.
You advice is appreciated.
