Topic: What engine is this?

According to VanPelt, 1939-42 has a triangle for the top hole, center and bottom are trapazoid. 1945-48 has a triangle at the top and the two bottom ones are round. As you can see from the picture, this engine has a triangle at the top, circle in the middle and trapazoid at the bottom.

This engine has 59 AB heads. It came out of a 37 ton and a half, which means it was a replacement engine for the truck. It has a crab type distributor cap and the coil is on the drivers side front. The fan is mounted high, by the generator.

Any ideas?

That looks like the 99T block that was used in big trucks in late 1938. In 1939, 1940 and 1941 it was used in the Mercury and the big trucks. It should be stamped 99T on the machined surface where the intake mounts and have 4 freeze plugs in the oil pan rail. The bore should be 3 3/16".

Most of these blocks were sleeved with thin steel sleeves. I cannot see any evidence that this block is sleeved.
