Is there a source to rebuild the shocks or a kit with the necessary parts to DIY? Both front shocks are leaking, the rears "look fine".

Pech, Andy is the only guy I'd recommend. I don't have his contact handy, but am certain someone does. Stellar workmanship done promptly and reasonably.
And FYI, those are not '40 shocks if it matters to you. You may (or may not) want to rebuild correct shocks as long as you are going through the cost and effort.

If your car is a 40 I suggest you have 40 shocks rebuilt. Your front shocks appear to be slightly earlier. See the 40 clubs restoration book for ID. Andy may have 40 front shocks rebuilt and in stock. If the shocks are locked up or loose and sloppy there is a good possibility they are not rebuildable.

Restoration book? The Benny Bootle book? Kube’s book is the only one listed on the Club website for 1940’s and I already have that. Anyone have the 1987 book they want to sell?

The front shocks are numbered F 740 and the rears are F 745. The rears appear to be correct, the fronts are from . . . ?

F-837 is the number on the arm for the 1940 front shocks. In about April of 1939 Houdaille changed the front seal in the main body of the shock from adjustable to spring loaded, non-adjustable. The early adjustable seal used a different front cover for the shock. That cover ring had three square holes. The non-adjustable 40 style, front cover, has 6 raised humps. Your photo and the leaking fluid make it difficult to see the front cover which appears like the 38-early 39 style with the adjustable feature and the square holes that accept a special wrench.
