Topic: Throttle Shaft Connectors

Mine keeps popping off. Any source to replace it or a good fix? I was looking for my serial number today (I just got my 40 convertible a month ago). I found it exactly even with the front cross member. As I suspected, some sultan of smart at the DMV somewhere along the line forgot an "8". My serial is 5864892. I thought at first that it had originally been a 60 hp convertible with only six numbers. Wrong. I had taken the horns off to start brushing the frame and I noticed a wire coming from the back of the steering gear box. As I was reinstalling the horns I noticed a vacant pigtail that was just the right length to match the wire from the steering box. What is it for?

This is an 81 YO unrestored convertible. New paint and interior 30 years or so ago. Someone added front disc brakes off a 76 F-100 (they don't work well) and it has electric wipers and fuel pump, other than that, Henry would recognize it.

Thanks for any help.

if the flex joint in the throttle rod is falling off one of the rods suggest you glue the rod to the joint. Originally the rods were crimped to the metal ends of the joint. Very hard to recreate the crimp. You can get the title fixed by the DMV to have the serial number corrected. The horn button wire runs through the inner steering column to the horn relay.

Mine did that too!! I remedied it the only way you can permanently.;Put (4) tiny hose clamps where the rubber connectors (under the hood) connect the rods from the dash to the rods on the carburetor. Needless to say, "They never diconnected again!!
