Topic: High Beam Indicator Shield?

Should there be a shield behind the high beam indicator lamp, up under the dash on a 1940 Sedan?

When I turn the high beams on, the whole floor on the driver's side lights up.

I thought of painting one side of the bulb silver, but I cannot imagine Ford doing this.

there is a shield that is also the retainer for the highbeam jewel, did you look under dash to see what is holding the jewel onto the dash board

Yes (but quite a while ago).

The socket is retained, but no shield.

I wonder if that part is reproduced?

  Thank you alanwoodieman and Mike!

I remember that the high beam indicator did not work when I got the car in 1975. The car had a "one size fits all" plastic wiring harness in it. We purchased the then current cloth type wiring harness and my father installed it (being color-blind, I had no hope of sorting out the different colored wires with different tracers in them).

I remember installing the socket for the high beam indicator-I remember a "U" or forked piece on the socket which, if memory serves, held the jewel in from the bottom of the instrument panel. There was no shield with it and I always wondered.

That photograph speaks volumes.

I found a reproduction: https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/trucks/interior/dash/81a-13580-high-beam-jewel-socket

This looks like the one in the photograph and very different from what is installed in my instrument panel!

The Dennis Carpenter reproduction appears as the original. The page you posted also shows the dash jewel for high beam for the car, the truck one is different. The light bulb is #51 for 6V
