I have understood that 1937 to 1940 springs are really the same...are they, I have found a set of 39 deluxe spring with nice covers and want to be certain they will fit mu 40 Deluxe>>>Mike what say you(or others)

There are small differences - mostly aesthetics. If concourse correct is not paramount to you, you'll be fine with the springs you'd found.
In 1939, covered springs were offered only as a dealer installed "option". Makes me think that perhaps what you'd found are really not '39 springs.

Thanks Mike...from what I can tell by reviewing the Green Book the rear spring is the same the question begin with the front. Accordingly the front on the 1940 convert was a 10 leaf, with cover...the 39 is reported to fit 37 to 39.. I guess the question is the 40 and 39 the same in size or due to the swivls and perch arrangement on the 40 make the spring different in size.
The spring i have found were taken off a 39 Deluxe cabrolet convert to build a street rod

You can use the 39 springs on your 40. They will fit and function fine.
