Topic: '40 lower radiator hose / heater hose fitting

"Kubes", I got a new heater hose outlet fitting for the lower radiator hose on my '40 convertible. Do you recommend any kind of sealer on that fitting to preclude it from a possible leak, or just fitting it up and tightening it?

By the way, I got it from Carpenter and the circumference on the outer piece, that goes under the nut, was too small (and not the same as the old piece) and I had to put it in the vise and "squash" it a little, to get it to match the old one, for a proper fit to the outside of the hose! UNBELIEVABLE!!! The inner piece had the same circumference as the hose.

I use INDIAN HEAD SHELLAC available at NAPA, about $2...

" Kubes", Would Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket work? I have that on the shelf.

I really don't know. Indian Head Sh*llac has been around for decades and is a tried & true chemical for this (and other) types of seal. I use it on all radiator hose connections as an added assurance against leaks.
