Topic: remote door handle return spring

skyoung    -- 04-27-2019 @ 2:39 PM
anyone had the opportunity to try to install this little spring for the remote door handle? It looks like it would need to be taken apart and then re-crimped however I am suspect the tabs would break. If anyone has done this please let me know

I replace these on each and every restoration I have done and will do.
I suggest you heat each tab up red hot prior to bending it straight. Then, once you've removed the cover, installed the new spring, repeat the process of heating up each tab before bending back over.
Do NO quenching. Allow the steel to cool down to ambient temperature naturally.
I've never broken a tab with this method.

Mike, can you send me a picture of the spring installed, I un-tabbed the unit and I just need to make sure I am installing the spring correctly.

Steve, I don't have any photos of this. The photo you had provided previously should help you. The spring can go in one of two ways. That depends on if it's the left or right door. The small straight part of the spring goes within a slot in the cover you had removed.

If you still have issues with this (they can be tricky), let me know. We'll get this!

MIke, can you if you have time give me a call on my cell so I can get this solved. An issue like this is easy if you have done it previously or the cop out way is to buy new, I will not do this.

I have taken apart the cover and have uploaded the picture.
