The usual vendors sell reproduction Hurd key blanks in a silver color finish. This seems consistent with the current 40 Ford Book that says: "The keys are finished with copper and then nickel plated."

But I see Bob Drake sells reproduction Hurd key blanks that the catalog says are "exact copies of the originals", but are antique brass/copper color.

Can I assume the 40 Ford Book is correct, and Bob Drake is just plain wrong?

Jay, It's been my experience with extremely original (unrestored - low mileage) cars that the blanks were plated.

I could not find anything in the archives to tell me with 100% certainty if that was the reality. That's often the case when parts were purchased from an outside supplier.
I am sorry I can't offer a 100% definitive answer for you. Me? I use plated blanks when restoring my cars.

Oh, Bob Drake (and no doubt others) has long used service parts as a guide to reproduce his wares. The problem as you surely realize with that is the parts may very well fit and function but all too often were not as assembled at the factory.
