Hi Mike, OK there is a vent hole in the upper body. My carb has a vertical/slant vet tube in the upper opening. I've noticed some 91-99 stamped 94's do not have this vent tube/pipe. Q: are both correct (w/ or w/o the tube)? Thanks Ken

NO, the one with NO TUBE is correct on a 91-99. ken ct

The 91-99 carburetor has a vent opening at the side of the top cover, where the accelerator pump is. This was changed to the tube in the throat on later carburetors. Tom

Ken, Regardless of whether the carburetor was supplied by Holley or built in house by Ford, both should have that small elongated vent in the top cover. There should be a small "F" or a small "H" cast upon the outside of the accelerator pump housing. This is respective of who manufactured the carburetor. All correct '39 & '40 carb's will have that "94" cast in the housing as well as "91-99". The carburetors you've witnessed with "91-99" on the center housing but absent the vent hole in the top cover have obviously had the top cover replaced at some point with an incorrect top. That vent tube you mention...another mismatch of pieces that had occurred at some point in the past. Mike "Kube" Kubarth
