Good afternoon everyone, Does anyone know the correct placement of the 1940 California Inspection Certificate on the windshield. Bottom left or bottom right? Thanks in advance for your help.

Good Morning, Scotty---- I checked the California Vehicle Code. Section 26708 states that you should place the sticker at the windshield's bottom right corner - essentially, as far away from the driver's field of vision as possible. If you want to be sure, give your nearest CHP office a call and I'm sure they can help you. Good Luck and have a nice Memorial Day Weekend. Tom

Tom, I looked up the section you referenced and get something different. There is also an exception for "other materials that are displayed in a five-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield nearest the driver". 26708. (a) (1) A person shall not drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows. (2) A person shall not drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied in or upon the vehicle that obstructs or reduces the driver's clear view through the windshield or side windows. (3) This subdivision applies to a person driving a motor vehicle with the driver's clear vision through the windshield, or side or rear windows, obstructed by snow or ice. (b) This section does not apply to any of the following: (1) Rearview mirrors. (2) Adjustable nontransparent sunvisors that are mounted forward of the side windows and are not attached to the glass. (3) Signs, stickers, or other materials that are displayed in a seven-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield farthest removed from the driver, signs, stickers, or other materials that are displayed in a seven-inch square in the lower corner of the rear window farthest removed from the driver, or signs, stickers, or other materials that are displayed in a five-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield nearest the driver. .... Having said that, I think the real question is where was it located originally. Scotty, how about a picture of the sticker? Charlie Stephens

Good Morning, Charlie--- Thanks for the additional input. I was trying to visualize the actual size of Scotty's inspection sticker before I replied to him. It was a good idea to get the actual size of the sticker. That being said, I go back to my original statement that the sticker not be placed anywhere to interfere with the driver's field of vision (pretty obvious stuff, huh?). I think once the actual size of the sticker is determined, I would say either bottom left corner or bottom right corner of the windshield would be correct. Tom

Tom and Charlie, Thank you for the research and reply. Im having an accurate reproduction of a 1940 vehicle safety sticker made (produced by Bobby Hoyt). The CHP applied these to cars windshields from the 1930s through the 1970s that passed the vehicle safety inspection. Im not sure what the dimensions of the stocker are. I don't believe more than 4" long X 3" wide You are correct, Im looking for information on original, authentic 1940 placement. Thank you
Scotty
