on my 48 Ford 2dr,if the starter is stuck and won"t release, is my only option to crawl under and try to remove it, or is their an easier way,just to get it the two blocks to my house, Tks John

Put it in 2nd or high gear and rock the car back and forth....You should hear a 'click' when the starter bendix gear releases from the flywheel....

as soon as I hook-up battery cable the starter starts to whine??

Sounds like a stuck solenoid....Tap the solenoid with a light hammer and see if it will release....
