This 1950 F-3 has the code 3 HM 29J 56 stamped on the firewall. I am having a problem getting the title corrected from 1949 to 1950. The BMV dosen't have records on these firewall numbers. The serial number is 98RY 482385 again the BMV was not able to use the vin to find the year of production. Are there records available to cross reference numbers to production dates. Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

There doesn't seem to be much information on the rating plates for the 49-53 trucks. The Truck chassis parts catalog has some and VanPelts sales has some. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumber-patentplate-1.htm

You might post this on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum. There are several on the '48-'56 section of the forum that could give the answer you need. By the 98RY prefix, your truck would be a '49 or '50 (9) V8 (8R) F3 (Y). The stamping on the firewall will give you the original color, assembly plant, and date of mfg. Mark

The 3 HM29J56 firewall code I was told by another Ford was correct for a 1950 truck 29J is translated to September 1950. How would I be able to prove that to the BMV? That is the problem in order to correct the title that was issued as a 1949. There is an affidavit to correct title errors but the BMV dosen't have firewall code information. Thank you for your help with this problem.

The serial number on the passenger side top frame rail just behind the radiator would be the number that would need to match the title. The numbers on the firewall center by the seam would be assembly numbers, paint and date codes. They probably wouldn't mean anything to the BMV. Is the cab original to the truck? Are there other issues with the title besides the year? Mark

Mark, Thank you for you input. The serial numbers match on the frame, firewall plaque and the glove box plaque. This truck was owned by the original owner till about 3 years ago and was stored in a mouse free garage its entire life. It's is original unrestored, the seat has very little wear and the jute under the original floor mat is in great shape. The front tires have been changed but the back tires and spare are original. I will buy Coker tires but do not intend to restore, it's orginal only once. The owner died and the truck was sold with some tractors and they had to apply for a lost title and they didn't get the year correct so when I bought it the numbers didn't add up to the date of manufacture. Others are probably saying I wish that was my only problem? Rgds, Bob
