My 47 Merc carburetor had fuel leaking at the throttle shaft. The shaft seemed worn and had considerable wiggle. I bought a new Holly 94 carb from Carpenter and this one also leaks at the throttle shaft, but not nearly as much. This causes a gas smell in the garage several minutes after parking the car. I had replaced the fuel pump with a unit I bought thru eBay, it was a "factory rebuilt" pump and the casting was slightly different than the original pump. I do not know what pressure the new pump puts out. I have a Holly pressure regulator that is set at 2 1/2 psi, but it is not currently installed. I bought it because the car came to me with an electric fuel pump which I removed after it caused the carb to overflow, spilling gas all over my blacktop driveway.
