I own an australian 1932 ford v8 sedan. It was built or assembled in the Geelong plant in Victoria. Can any member tell me from the engine number C18R starting code any further information regarding the the car details. Thanks

The C18R prefix was the second and last prefix used by Ford of Canada for its '32 V-8 engine numbers. Your car having the "late" prefix is consistent with the fact that the Job #1 for '32 models in Australia was in August, 1932. That's late compared to both Ford U.S. and Ford of Canada where the '32 model Job #1s were both in March, 1932. The delay is usually attributed to the need to produce a significant portion of the '32 model bodies locally in Australia.

i understand there where 5973 engines coded C18R manufactured in Canada. Would all of these been for the Australian market or for other right hand drive markets. If also for other markets, how many of the C18R codes came to Australia thanks ian'

The first series of '32 V-8 engines produced by Ford of Canada carried the prefixes of either C18D (LHD) or C18DF (RHD). There were 10,000 engines in that first series. The second series used the prefix of C18R (LHD) and C18RF (LHD). The use of the letter "R" in the second series' prefix does not connote RHD, but rather the added "F" does that. Both the first and second series of engines were used in chassis destined for Ford of Canada's domestic as well as for all of its overseas subsidiaries, including but not limited to Australia. The others were primarily Commonwealth countries. A record of Ford of Canada component or vehicle exports by individual country does not seem to have survived.

Gentlemen, Thank you for talking about C18 Ford of Canada export cars. I am working as one of two Project Co-ordinators on a 1936 Roadster survey within the EFV8 club. The subject of exported C18 model 68 type 710 vehicles is of great interest to us. Do you have any knowledge regarding RHD or LHD '36 roadsters that went to Australia or another Commonwealth country? Do you know of any C18 '36 roadsters currently in Australia? Can you tell us what letter or letters would have followed "C18" in any '36 roadsters built by Ford of Canada? Any assistance which you might be able to provide would be very much appreciated.
