Topic: Cabiolet rumble seat

The Cabriolet that I'm restoring does not have a rumble seat. This appears to be original from the factory. (proper holes, hardware, brackets, etc.) I was under the impression that all Cabriolets had rumble seats. Is this true, or could it have been ordered that way? To convert is very difficult due to the lack of parts available for a Cabriolet. Any help is appreciated.

It is easy to document that '32 cabriolets had rumble seats as standard equipment, but I suspect near impossible to document that one or some were produced without rumble seats. You can readily convert the deck lid to a rumble lid, but the hinges on the lid and the brackets for the rubber stops on the floor are unique to the cabriolet and would represent a real challenge to find. To my knowledge, neither the hinges nor the stop brackets were ever reproduced.

The stop brackets could be made fairly easily by a competent metal bender and the rumble hinges of either a '32 roadster or standard/sport coupe could be modified to fit a cabriolet if you had a pattern of the cabriolet hinges. (Beware that roadster and standard/coupe hinges are not the same, unlike what many sellers would have you believe. Having said that, either would serve as a starting point for the required modification to create cabriolet hinges. I believe that both types have been reproduced.)

I converted the trunk to a rumble seat with my '32 roadster. Thinking back, I wish I had left the trunk.
