Topic: Straighten Steering Wheel

With my front wheels straight ahead, the steering wheel on my '40 is turned to the right about 15 degrees. What is the best procedure for straightening the steering wheel?

must have a replacement drag link-- that bar between pitman arm and right spindle. loosen the tow bolts holding this together and remove one end and adjust this rod to fit when the wheel is alighned

Hi....I don't have a '40, but if the steering setup is anything like my '51, Look at the steering shaft and determine that it is in the center of it's travel. If it is, then pull the steering wheel and replace it to your liking. If the shaft is not in the center of travel, then the steering linkage must be adjusted (tie rod ends). Seems like all this might be best accomplished by a front end alignment shop, which can set it all up to specs. BT

Turn the steering wheel lock to lock and center it then check the wheel that it is in the position that you want , now disconnect the drag lint from the wheels and line up the wheels . A string run along the rear wheels to the front wheels will tell you the wheels are straight. Now adjust the tie rod ends so that you have 1/16 to 1/8 toe in . Now reconnect the drag link to the pitman arm or the spindle which ever end you removed .

Thanks for your help. This looks like an easy fix that I can do myself.
