I have a 1950 Ford with OD trans. I have converted it to 12 volts. I put in a 1956 Ford 12 volt solenoid. When I back up it clicks, not forward at least that I can hear. Wiring is not hooked up yet, I've changed nothing except to install the 12 solenoid. Les Fisher Fisher5632@aol.com

Sounds like the shaft on the solenoid may not be engaged in the gear. Also check to see if the shaft on the 12 volt solenoid is the same length as the six volt one. Measure them both in extended position and retracted position. If I remember right the solenoid must be installed with the shaft extended and then rotated clockwise about a quarter of a turn.

Thanks for the answer. The shafts were the same length. My problem was to line up shaft with slider and rotate. Fell right in when I did it right.
