On my 46,what does the grease zirk in the middle of the Torque tube actually lubricate? If over lubricated, what are the chances grease will flow down the tube, through the differential, along an axle, past a seal, and onto a brake drum. a Impossible b Possible c Highly unlikely

it actually lubricates the center carrier bearing for the enclosed driveshaft. you would have to put about 10 tubes of grease or more to do what you have questioned. a couple of pumps once/twice a year is sufficient

A greater problem occurs when oil from the transmission flows down the torque tube into the rear end. This is a normal situation and if you check the oil level in the rear end, chances are it is over full. This can result in oiled brakes. Fill the transmission only to the bottom of the filler, and always check the rear end and allow the excess to drain from the filler hole.

Thanks for informative replies. I asked the question because years ago a locking right rear wheel, caused inspection, which revealed one shoe soaked in oil/grease, which revealed a complete system rebuild was in order.
