  Rebuilt 286 ci 59A starts but shuts down when starter button is released. Coil wire at the switch does not show any power but is wired to the hot solenoid terminal.
None of the wires were moved at the switch when making the conversion. Thanks for any help!

  I assume you are saying the input wire to the ignition switch is connected to the battery side of the starter solenoid? Is it hot at the hot terminal of the switch. If it is, it seems as if the ignition switch isn't connecting. If it isn't hot at the hot terminal of the switch, you will have to trace the wire or rewire it.

It sounds like the ignition hot wire is on the starter side of the solenoid. Swap it to the other post.
