People, people, people!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My '39 problem. It has been solved!!!!!!!!!!Bad Optima battery. Bad bad battery. Went to Budget Battery and bought an off the shelf low tech wet cell battery. Put it in and off we go! Thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions. Moral of this tale,.................The best battery in the world can still go bad & if it is bad, it still is a bad battery.   @ greginski

We all learned something from your experience with your Optima Battery....I guess you can't always go by what appears to be a good battery given its voltage readings....

I am glad that you finally got your fine 39 running again. A car as nice as that should not be just sitting in the garage, it should be out on the road so that you and others can enjoy it.

I guess that we should have asked you how you determined that your battery was eliminated as the source of your problem in your first post about this problem.

Voltage readings taken when the starter was cranking the engine would have shown that the battery was not up to par. These readings could have been taken any time that the starter solenoid was engaged.

Most tire and battery stores have equipment to test the battery under simulated load and will perform the test at no charge.

Another test that would have shown the bad battery is to turn on the headlights and try to start the car. The lights should just dim, not go out.
