Topic: 49 Ford Conv

The front fenders have a bigger gap at the top than at the bottom where they snug up to the body. Consequently there is also too big of a gap between the hood and the body. Looking at the car, it seems that the way to correct the problem is to loosen all the bolts at the back of the fenders and then raise up the radiator support until the gap between body and fenders is approximately the same and then to adjust the hood. Before trying this I thought it best to ask for advise. Also, what should be used to shim the radiator support up higher? Thanks. Jim Farrell

Use thick flat washers to shim up the radiator support. Set the gap on the hood to the cowl first. Then move each fender towards the hood and the front of the door to set your gaps.Unfortunately Ford put these cars together very quickly in 49 and they were not perfect when they left the assembly line.
